Track 03 / 04

Advanced Improvisation & Lead.

This is the program mazdisocveer.cfd teaches when a player already knows the pentatonic scales and wants to stop sounding like everyone else. We rebuild your ear, your phrasing, and your relationship with silence — and we record everything.

Play like yourself. Not like a backing track.

Most advanced players hit the same wall twice: once when their pentatonic vocabulary runs out, then again when they learn the modes and realize they don't actually know how to use them. They have ten scales and zero phrases. They know the theory and can't play a chorus that doesn't sound like a textbook.

mazdisocveer.cfd's advanced track solves this by ignoring the gear-and-shred-demon culture and focusing on the three things that actually move a player forward: ear training, transcription, and phrasing architecture.

The transcription backbone.

Every week we transcribe a short solo — usually between 8 and 16 bars — from a player whose phrasing I want you to internalize. We slow it down with Transcribe!, we annotate every gesture, we figure out why the choice works in context. The solos are stylistically diverse: Robben Ford, Julian Lage, Emily Remler, Derek Trucks, John Scofield, Nir Felder. By the end of the program you'll have a vocabulary of six distinct phrases you can deploy in any key.

What's inside the program.

  • Ear training intensive (weeks 1–4). Daily interval, chord-quality, and key-detection drills. We measure your speed and accuracy against a benchmark. By week 4 you'll hear a ii-V-I and know what it is in under a second.
  • Five pentatonic positions, deep (weeks 1–6, parallel track). Not just the boxes — the notes outside the box, the chord-tone targets on the strong beats, and how to move through them without sounding like a scale run.
  • Modal playing, applied (weeks 5–8). Dorian over a minor chord, Mixolydian over a dominant, Altered over a 7b9. Applied to six real tunes, not "let's analyze Kind of Blue".
  • Phrasing architecture (weeks 6–12, parallel). Call-and-response, motif development, the role of silence. The single biggest reason "shredders" sound generic is they never learned to leave space.
  • Five recorded choruses (weeks 8–12). By the end, you record five complete solos over the same set of changes and we listen to them together. The progress between solo one and solo five is the marker.

Who this is for.

  • You know the pentatonic shapes in all five positions and you're bored of yourself.
  • You can play fast but you can't play slow with intention.
  • You want to take a chorus in any band setting — jazz, blues, soul, fusion, country — and feel like you actually said something.
  • You're willing to transcribe. (If you're not, this isn't the right track — and I respect that.)

Who this isn't for.

  • If you're still building chord vocabulary and barre-chord fluency, start with the Intermediate Electric track instead. We'll get here, but not yet.
  • If you want to play like a particular YouTube shredder — possible, but I won't pretend that's the best use of your time.

Pricing.

Single 75-minute lesson: $130 USD. The recommended program is the 12-pack at $1,460, including feedback on your weekly audio submissions. Prices exclude applicable taxes and payment processing — see cancellation & refund terms.
